On #InternationalWomensDay2021 I pay tribute to my sector, Children’s TV and its female leaders.
For those of us who work in pre-school look no further than Freda Lingstrom, who established ‘Watch with Mother’, the CBeebies of its day. Not only the 3rd Director of BBC Children’s she was also an illustrator and novelist. She created Andy Pandy, the Flower Pot Men, brought Sooty to the screen and commissioned Crackerjack.
As this year’s theme is #choosetochallenge I’m asking the #BFI to review her biography. Does she need to be described as ‘matriarchal’ and why use the term which, when used properly should celebrate female leadership, as a negative trait?
